The Corpus Christi Arts and Cultural Commission will
present two outreach workshops for students with internationally recognized
guest artist Julie Kirk and Melanie Stimmell who will share their expertise
and fascination with the ephemeral technique of street painting. Street
painting dates back to the 15th or 16th centuries when war veterans
returning home, often disabled or unable to make a living, turned to the
streets in an effort to support themselves. They would draw pictures on the
sidewalk, putting out a basket in hopes of donations. Until recently, due to the temporary nature of the art work, it has not been visually documented. The tradition is continued today around the world - some painters work on their own on various city streets, and many attend festivals dedicated to this unique art form. Space is limited for this free workshop, so please reserve early. Contact: Chris Semtner (361) 826-3468 info@ccfestivalarts.org |
